If you knew you could save a life, would you?
Well, if you attend the first blood donor clinic of 2004, you would be able to do that.
This clinic will be held at Fort Frances High School on Wednesday, April 28 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and again Thursday, April 29 from noon-3 p.m. and 5-8:30 p.m.
At the two clinics held here last year, we did not reach our quota at either one. We were short by a total of 82 donors.
Our quota for this clinic is 358 donors (134 for Wednesday and 224 for Thursday).
Please plan to set aside one hour of your time either tomorrow or Thursday. Come—and bring a friend!
Basic requirements for giving blood are:
•bring identification (with your full name and signature, or full name and photograph);
•eat before you donate;
•you must weigh at least 50 kg (110 pounds); and
•minimum interval between blood donations is 56 days
You must wait before donating blood if you have:
•been to a dentist (three days after visit);
•a cold, ’flu, or sore throat (full recovery); or
•ear or body piercing or tattooing (12 months)
Although you will never meet the person whose life was saved with your donation, you will have the satisfaction of knowing someone near is benefiting from your “Gift of Life.”
That someone could be a family member, a stranger, a neighbour, or even yourself.
Only three percent of Canadians donate blood and yet roughly eight percent of Canadians will require blood over the next year.
The Winnipeg Blood Centre requires 1,000 units of blood each week to meet the needs of hospital patients in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.
The clinics are co-ordinated by the La Verendrye General Hospital Auxiliary and the volunteers of this organization—in their pink smocks—look forward to seeing you.
