According to Bell, all of Northwestern Ontario is on Thunder Bay time.
While they are able to supply new technology in the form of high-speed data transfers, video-conferencing, and ISDN, Bell has been unable to accommodate the Central time zone here.
As such, all the caller identification displays in Rainy River District show Eastern time so the more than 10,000 households and businesses have to remember to add an hour to what they see on their display.
“It will be off an hour. After the new upgrade to the equipment, everything is run out of Thunder Bay,” a customer service rep said.
“The clock runs Thunder Bay time and there is nothing we can do to change that,” she added. “You can change it but when a call comes through, it will be bumped back to Thunder Bay time.”
The recent change came as part of the $5-million upgrade to Bell services in the area.
