The day started off with all the 4-H members unloading their steers and heifers at Barb and Brent Miller’s residence.
After the cattle were settled, Jared called the meeting to order and we recited the 4-H pledge.
Next, all steers and heifers were weighed. Then all intermediate members led their steers around the coral.
While that was happening, Brent showed us younger members the correct way of turning our steers, setting them up to display their positive features, how to carry our combs, show-sticks, and cloths, what to wear, as well as how to be attentive to the judge while showing our animals.
The junior members led their steers, and Brent gave us useful pointers to help keep ourselves and our animals calm and in control.
Then Aaron Kourikoski showed our club how to trim a calf’s hair with clippers and scissors, using Tyler’s steer.
After he finished, Bud and Cindy gave us “A Showing Guide for Success” handout. They explained due dates for our books and our “Release of Liability” form.
They also noted the meeting to assemble the fair board would be held on Aug. 11 home of Bud and Donna McQuaker.
Jared adjourned the meeting, then the club members shared a great meal with family members.
