Barwick gun show set to go

Families from across the district are invited to attend the second-annual Barwick Gun & Hobby show, which is set to run this Saturday (May 2) from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Barwick Community Centre.
“We have over 30 tables now, close to 40 tables, booked with the firearms and hobby stuff,” said event organizer Scott Stafford, noting there will be something of interest for everyone at the show, including Loewen’s Greenhouse having a table.
While only non-restricted firearms (i.e., long guns, rifles, and shotguns) were shown last year, this year’s show will feature an expanded number of different firearms for people to look at, Stafford said.
“There are going to be restricted and prohibited firearms there, along with the unrestricted this year, so that adds to more classes of firearms that weren’t there last year,” he explained.
“Everything is pretty much the same as last year, except for the deer horns,” Stafford added.
With such a demand for this part of the show a year ago, this year all rack entries have been
pre-submitted and measured, and the winners won’t be based on actual score.
“There’s going to be two classes for the contest,” noted Stafford. “One is for the full rack contest and one is for the shed antler contest.
“There’s going to be prizes awarded just based on people’s choice. So there’s going to be votes.
“You can vote for one full mount and one shed antler.”
Stafford said the show also will sport plenty of activities to keep children busy, such as face-painting as well as an archery range using foam arrows.
“We’re trying to make it a family day,” he stressed. “People should really feel free to bring their whole family.
“We don’t have anything against having kids, we have three of our own and one more on the way, so we really want to make it a family-friendly place.”
Admittance to the gun and hobby show is $3 at the door.
