‘Bar Man’ plans visit to Woody’s

A special visitor is expected at F.R. Woody’s Pub in Ranier around 7:30 p.m. on Monday, and “Woody” himself is inviting the public to come out and meet the living legend among bar and pub aficionados.
He’s known as “Bar Man,” and has been featured in stories in the Ottawa Sun, the New York Daily News, the Japan Times Weekly, Blick Magazine in Germany, and other international media.
His claim to fame? Trying to visit 1,000 different bars in one year.
Dan Freeman is a retired computer consultant from Brooklyn, N.Y. He began his quest on Jan. 1 and plans to complete the quest before his 61st birthday in December.
Woody’s Pub will be #777 on his list.
But it’s no accident Freeman will be visiting Ranier. Barry “Woody” Woods, who owns the pub, said Freeman has come to this area on vacation before and the two have gone fishing together.
Woods said he’s asked Fort Frances bagpiper Dr. Bruce Lidkea to perform there Monday to mark the occasion.
Freeman, who generally only drinks one drink in each establishment he visits, even has set up a website where people can follow his progress at www.thousandbars.com
