Mike Badiuk, a very familiar name on the local curling scene, captured top spot over the weekend at the annual Fort Frances men’s bonpsiel.
Mike and his team of Matt Seguin (third), Matt Johnson (second), and Travis Showalter (lead) played exceptionally well and enjoyed the weekend.
This was the second-straight year Badiuk has won this title.

Our community extends its sympathy to Len, Ken, Andy, Ed, and their families in the passing of Mabel McCormick.
She endured a long battle with cancer, but she fought this horrific disease with courage, determination, and dignity.
She definitely will leave a mark never to be forgotten.
Mabel will be remembered for her beautiful craft work, and she made many a quilt for family members. Her love of gardening showed in her beautiful vegetable and flower gardens.
She also loved her pets, and they definitely were part of the family.
Her passing saddens many at this time, but may people draw strength in knowing Mabel will live in the hearts of the many people she cared about and made their lives better.

Last week’s card winners at the Devlin Hall were Nobert and Jean Bragg. The low score was taken by Rudy Meyers and Mary Lou Allan.
A reminder that cards are played every Tuesday night at the Devlin Hall.
The cost is $5 each, which includes lunch.

The Emo Legion held a 50/50 draw on Saturday. The lucky winner was Ginger Bragg, who took home $522.50.
Adelia Guba sold the winning ticket.

The Emo Legion is busy with upcoming activities, with the first being its annual Good Friday fish fry on April 10.
The cost is $13, which includes a delicious supper of fish and all the trimmings.
Take-out orders will be available up to 4 p.m.

A reminder the Emo Legion will host a soup and sandwich luncheon in conjunction with Spring Fever Days (April 17-18).
Admission is $6.50.
The Legion also is renting out tables for its “Crafts Galore” that weekend at the cost of $10 each.

Guthrie United Church in Devlin is hosting its annual spring tea on Sunday, April 19.
Organizers would appreciate new items for the penny table.

The annual Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts runs April 13-24 this year.
Many young people from across the district compete, and it’s great to go and watch all the local talent perform.
