Atikokan K-12 school funded

Press Release

Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro was at Atikokan High School yesterday to announce the province is investing in a significant rebuild and addition to the existing high school to create a new K-12 school.
This multi-million-dollar project will accommodate nearly 417 students from K-12, and includes three new child-care rooms with 49 licensed child care spaces and a new child and family room.
This is part of a new investment across the province to build 39 brand new schools and undertake 40 major renovations or additions that will include more than 2,700 licensed child-care spaces for children up to age four, helping more families access safe and affordable child care closer to home.
“Our government’s $23-million investment into a new K-12 school is great news for Atikokan,” said Mauro.
“I am proud that we are making a real difference for students and families now and for future generations.
“Congratulations to the school board, staff, the accommodation review team, and community partners,” he added.
“Your vision and commitment to student success has helped make this project a reality.”
“In building a new consolidated school, we are laying the groundwork to support a culture of lifelong learning and the board’s commitment to providing high-quality academic programming and enhanced opportunities for both our elementary and secondary students,” said Dianne McCormack, chair of the Rainy River District School Board.
“This announcement signifies the efforts of school and board staff and community partners, working together to support Atikokan students, today and into the future,” echoed Heather Campbell, director of education for the Rainy River District School Board.
“The investment in the Atikokan kindergarten-Grade 12 school, with the funding for daycare and a child and family room, will provide our students and their families with welcoming, safe, and supportive teaching and learning environments to enhance student achievement and well-being,” she noted.
