Braving the elements Saturday morning, 22 archers—both young and experienced alike—stalked through the bush at the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club grounds by Frog Creek to compete in the 3-D archery shoot.
Ben Wiersema topped the Traditional category, with Eric Kaufman in second and Dave Simon third. Dave Fadness won the Bowhunter Limited division, with Darryl McLeod being the only other competitor.
Blair Beadow took the Bowhunter Unlimited category, followed by Dave Legg.
Corie Kaufman was on target in the youth category, followed by Jason Donaldson, while Josh Simon excelled in the Cub division, followed by David Chambers and Zack Simon.
Some of the categories only had two competitors, and some archers did not complete the course due to the adverse weather conditions.
Competitors were marked on where they hit the three-dimensional animal replicas (flank, chest, etc.) as they shot at them while moving through the course.
While the event—the third of its kind this year—attracted 22 archers, a party of 10 from Dryden never made it because of the tractor-trailer accident that closed Highway 502 for most of Saturday morning.
