Annual ‘Good Life’ walk set to start

The fourth-annual “Walk for Good Life” (“Stand Strong and Honour Your Gifts”) will be coming through Northwestern Ontario during the week of July 29-Aug. 4.
About 20-25 core walkers will be participating in the 500-km journey using the Black Dog method (whereby participants walk one-mile distances throughout the day).
Walkers will be travelling a full circle from Eagle Lake First Nation and back over seven nights, and will be making stops for community lunches/gatherings and camping along the way.
Community members are encouraged to come out and greet the youth walkers from across the Treaty #3 territory and support them in their journey of self-discovery and accomplishment.
Their itinerary is as follows:
•Saturday, July 28—Arrive in Eagle Lake by 5 p.m. and camp at Eagle Lake First Nation pow-wow grounds;
•Sunday, July 29—Walk down Highway #502 and camp at Eagle Lake First Nation pow-wow grounds;
•Monday, July 30—Walk down Highway #502 and camp at Timberwolf Lodge;
•Tuesday, July 31—Walk down Highway #502 and along Highway #11, stopping for lunch and a community gathering at Couchiching First Nation from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., followed by supper and a community gathering at Rainy River First Nations from 5:30-9 p.m. (camping at the pow-wow grounds there);
•Wednesday, Aug. 1—Walk up Highway #71 to Onigaming First Nation, with a supper and community gathering at the round house from 5:30-9 p.m.;
•Thursday, Aug. 2—Walk up Highway #71 to Rushing River, with a noon lunch and community gathering at AKRC, followed by a supper and gathering with hand drum songs for park campers (camping at Rushing River Provincial Park);
•Friday, Aug. 3—Walk up Highway #71 and along Highway #17 to Blue Lake Provincial Park, where there will be a supper and gathering with hand drum songs for park campers (camping at Blue Lake Provincial Park); and
•Saturday, Aug. 4—Walk along Highway #17 back to Eagle Lake First Nation, arriving at 1 p.m. for the pow-wow.
Youth and community members are encouraged to come out and take part in the community gatherings, join in the walk for a mile or two, and support the walkers with financial contributions.
Please be considerate on the highways when passing the walkers along their route.
