The new council for Alberton held its inaugural meeting Monday night.
Reeve Mike Hammond and Couns. Barb Cournoyer, Lou Collier, Mike Ford, and Doug Mitchell opened the proceedings by taking their oaths of office before settling down to deal with the brief agenda.
Coun. Ford was appointed deputy reeve while Coun. Cournoyer was appointed as Alberton’s rep on the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board.
Coun. Collier was appointed as the township’s rep on the executive of the Rainy River District Municipal Association.
Council indicated strong support for the Rainy River Field Naturalists’ “Bog Walk Interpretive Trail” project at the west end of Whitmore Road, although certain details still need to be addressed before any resolutions will be put forward.
Council also noted the township’s recreation committee is looking for more members to help put on skating parties and other activities.
Council’s next regular meeting is slated Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
