A new addition to our family

I am pleased to report to you that we have a new family member, and although it’s only for six months, I already know that saying good-bye will be difficult.
Sarah Dhillon from Adelaide, Australia arrived Aug. 15 after travelling 68 hours to reach her destination in Devlin. Due to the hydro black-out in Toronto area Aug. 14, her arrival was delayed by 20 hours.
Actually, she would have been 88 hours reaching our area had my daughter Carley and Allison Hyatt not driven to Thunder Bay to pick her up Saturday. Due to the fact that Bearskin does not fly Saturdays, Sarah would have had to spend the day in Thunder Bay.
Since her arrival, she has been busy spending time at a cabin with high school girls, or should I say, friends that she has already made.
She spent Sunday on Lake Despair riding various lake toys. She has enjoyed the Dairy Queen menu—one restaurant they don’t have in Australia.
One of Sarah’s dreams is to see snow.
There are three other students thus school year that are going to be living in the Rainy River district through the Southern Cross Cultural Exchange—two from Germany and one from Mexico.
Let’s all make these exchange students’ experiences in our area a memorable experience.

Sarah is here for six months, I’m not sure about the other students but I’m guessing it is the same amount of time.

After much excitement and close games, the A Side was won by Variety Zone, beating out Good Vibrations with a 23-30 final score.
The B side showed River Rats over Village People with a win of 13-12. Winning the year for the league was Good Vibrations.

Sincere sympathy to the children and other family members of Art Bonot. Art was a well-known and respected man in Emo for many years, and was very involved in his community of Emo. He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this time.

Anyone wanting history books at the reduced price of $60 be sure to purchase then by Sept. 1, 2003.
The price will increase after this date. Books can be purchased from any committee member, Greensides, Municipal Office, Emo Museum, Post Office or Dev-Lynn’s. Be sure to get them now and save yourself some money!

There will be a turkey supper at the dance hall Aug. 3 starting at 5:00 p.m. ending at 8:00 p.m. Cost is $9.50. Call Jean Hayes at 274-9073. The menu also consists of ham and all the trimmings.

Although I didn’t attend the Mud Lake Jamboree, I heard the turnout was great and the music the best that it’s ever been.

The Hereford cattle tour is Sept. 27 (not Aug. 27) that I reported last week. I apologize for that mistake. This event starts at Jack McNabb’s and ends at Kim-Jo Bliss’ with a barbecue. Call Kim-Jo at 483-2354 for more information.

The annual cattle sale is Sept. 6 at the Stratton Sales Yard.
