In keeping with their commitment to enhance care for patients at La Verendrye Hospital, the Hospital Auxiliary which was founded in 1952 has pledged to raise $75,000 over the course of the next eight months to renovate the Chemotherapy Department at the hospital.
Every resident of the district knows a family member, friend or neighbour who has benefitted from the chemo services that are now available locally. The pledged funds will go towards enhancing privacy and comfort for patients and updating the workplace for nursing staff in chemotherapy. The hospital’s project goal is, “to create a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for patients while improving workflow for staff and enhancing the overall patient experience.”
Planning for the first major event of this campaign is underway. Due to popular demand, the Auxiliary is hosting the 2nd Pumpkins & Plaid fundraising luncheon on Sunday, October 25, at the Royal Canadian Legion in Fort Frances. Lunch will be included along with many activities with great prizes to help raise funds.
The admission price remains at $30, and tickets are available at the Hospital Gift Shop (Monday-Friday, 12:00 – 3:30), the Senior Centre and the Library until Friday, October 16. If you need more information or would like to book a block of seats, contact Janice Mundle at 807-271-3665. Thanks to all the individuals and businesses who are providing support and items for the event. Last year was a sellout so purchase your tickets soon.
Along with special events, the Hospital Gift Shop and pop and vending machines are year-round sources of funds for the Auxiliary. Check out the abundance of cute baby items, cuddly blankets, and the ever-changing pop-ups including jewellery from Once Upon a Spoon by Kris Krag, purses and bags created by Kathy Schwartz of Tamarack Shack Quilting, Nathan Galusha’s freeze-dried treats, clothing from Andrea Schram’s Backroad Boundary and lots more. Great place to shop local!
There will be many more activities during 2026-27 to acknowledge and celebrate 75 years of member and community support. Watch for posters, Facebook posts and media reports to stay up-to-date on the 75th Anniversary.
