4-H club off on exchange

The Rainy River 4-H exchange club held a meeting July 3 at 8:30 a.m. at the Devlin municipal building. We had a great turnout for the meeting as we were finalizing arrangements for our departure on an exchange visit to La Belle Province.
We were slated to land at Dorval Airport in Montreal on Monday (July 9), and all the kids on the 4-H exchange were really getting excited.
The 4-H exchange club has been doing various fundraising events, such as the walk-a-thon, garage sale, bake sale, and the 50/50 draw which was held June 29.
Joanne Clysdale held the lucky ticket, winning $200.
We would like to congratulate Mrs. Clysdale on her winnings and thank her for supporting our 4-H fundraising event, as well as everyone else who purchased tickets. It was greatly appreciated.
The club also would like to thank the Department of Canadian Heritage. If not for it, the 4-H Youth Exchange Canada exchange would not be possible.
This department pays for all the travel costs, including air fare.
This is a great opportunity for young people throughout Canada to travel and visit different places across the country as well as meeting new people that could become lasting friendships.
It is amazing how large a country we live in and the vast majority of us don’t have the opportunity to view its grandeur.
While I am thanking people, I guess I might as well thank our very brave chaperones, Mrs. Nielson and Mrs. Donaldson. They worked very hard to organize this trip, plus are taking on the task of travelling to Quebec with 11 kids.
Our Quebec exchange kids will be arriving in Rainy River District on Aug. 6. We are organizing a very busy schedule for them and hopefully they will be as impressed with Rainy River District as I’m sure we will be with Quebec.
It may be very interesting as some of the kids from Rainy River District will be staying with totally French families–I hope they remember dictionaries and practice hand signals.
Our club will be meeting again once we return home from our great adventure to Quebec, which will include finalizing plans for our guests’ arrival from Quebec.
A bientot (later).
