From the OPP
Today through Sunday (March 12-18, officers from the Rainy River District OPP will be participating in the OPP’s distracted driving campaign.
Although officers patrol highways all year and look for distracted driving, this campaign is used to highlight the issue in our communities.
Distracted driving refers to all forms of distracted or inattentive driving, such as adjusting a vehicle’s entertainment system, GPS unit, or stereo, eating and drinking, using a hand-held device, self-grooming, or tending to children in the backseat, etc.
Drivers need to remember that the true danger to public safety lies in the distraction, not the device.
Distracted driving results in a fine of $490 and carries a penalty of three demerit points for a first offence.
