Ever want to throw somebody in jail just for fun–and raise money for a good cause at the same time?
The Fort Frances Voyageur Lions are giving you that chance.
The club will be holding its annual “Jail or Bail” fundraiser on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Fort Frances Curling Club in conjunction with the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s Business and Community Expo.
But you can’t have such a fundraiser without “convicts” and that’s where the public comes in.
Club member Bill Michl said the hardest part of staging “Jail or Bail” always has been going business-to-business to round up willing participants.
But this year, the public is being asked to help get “felons” themselves.
“I thought, maybe friends have a better way to talk other friends into doing it?” Michl noted.
“We’re also trying to get the challenges going this year,” he added. “Maybe the jail will challenge the police?
“We want to get the idea out there and raise a little money.”
To nominate a criminal, find the “Bail or Jail” ad in today’s edition of the Daily Bulletin and fill out the name and phone number of the person you’d like to see serve hard time to raise cold cash.
You also should mark down the best location and time for the Lions to contact that person, as well as a possible humorous “crime” that person could be charged with.
You’ll also have to include your own name and contact information.
Then you must send in the form to Michl.
There are several options available to do so.
One is to take a photo of your filled-out form and e-mail it to bmichl226@gmail.com
A second option is to take a photo of your entry form and text it to Michl at 276-1334.
A third option is to cut it out and fax it to Good Impressions at 274-2805.
If none of those options work for you, call Michl at 276-1334.
The “convict” will be asked to appear before a judge at the “Jail or Bail” event April 22 and be put behind bars.
The accused then are asked to raise a minimum of $200 to make bail, although the Lions are hoping participants bring in as much as they can.
