Happy New Year to all!

Here’s wishing everyone in the Rainy River District a happy New Year.

Despite growing issues with COVID-19 and all the concern and changes this pandemic has made in our lives may, 2021 bless you with good health, family and all your needs fully met.

Congratulations to Jeff and Rhianna Angus on the birth of their son Watson Wayne born December 12. Proud grandparents are Cheryl and Wayne Angus and Mike and Dawn Flemming.

Also birth congratulations to Craig and Erika McTavish on the birth of their daughter Freya, born December 23. Doug and Patti McTavish are happy to welcome their new granddaughter into their lives.

Sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Shirley Wilson who passed December 14. She was a dynamic, feisty 95 year-old lady. Witty as can be. She loved her sons Ken and Greg, and her grandchildren brought her much joy. She never thought twice about correcting anything she thought was wrong, or mentioning “without being discreet” that you had gained weight.

My heart always felt fuller after spending time with Shirley. She will be sadly missed but her menu will live on every time a story is told. It will be said, “that’s our Shirley … gotta love her.”

A happy 70th birthday to Cheryl Beadle. Here’s hoping your birthday was great and you enjoy many more!

Also congratulations to Brian and Nancy Allan on their 45th anniversary! Here’s hoping you make many more years of marriage.

Crossroads School welcomes Kerry Hyatt (Gross)as the school secretary. And best of wishes to Marnie McDonald in her new position at the Rainy River District School Board Office.

The LaVallee Municipal Office will resume regular hours January 4 2021.

Robin’s 2 cents

Here are 3 things to consider as we get closer to closing the door on one of the most horrible year of our lifetime!

  1. 2019- stay away from negative people
2020- stay away from positive people.
  2. Never in a million years could I have imagined I would go to a bank teller with a mask and ask for money.
  3. This virus has done what no woman was able to do:
    • Cancel sports
    • Shut down all bars
    • And keep men at home
