The Knights of Columbus—Rainy Lake Council’s “Coats4Kids” 2016 campaign is underway, with a GoFundMe page launched Wednesday.
The council is “seeking community members to donate whatever they can spare, so we can raise funds to buy winter jackets for at-risk youth in Fort Frances and the surrounding area,” campaign organizer Nathan Cousineau wrote.
Those interested in donating to the campaign can go online to www.gofundme.com/2swfas4
The goal this year is to raise at least $1,000.
“Last year we were able to raise over $1,200 and were able to purchase 60 brand new winter jackets for boys and girls who may have gone without,” noted Cousineau on the page.
“We purchase direct from Burlington Coat Factory, and distribute through a partnership with the local Family and Child Services,” he explained.
“Due to direct purchase and bulk shipping, we are able to secure shipments of a dozen jackets for under $250,” Cousineau added.
“It’s a deal that cannot be beat, and for a quality garment.”
The KCs anticipate all jackets will be given to youth in our community.
“What’s more, to ensure that youth who receive the jackets are not stigmatized, they are not all the same and therefore will not be easily identified as ‘charity,’” noted Cousineau.
In order to be able to get the jackets prior to a serious cold snap, the KCs’ campaign will go until Oct. 31.
