Next Thursday (Feb. 4), Cloverleaf Grocery in Emo will be donating 15 percent of the proceeds for the day, up to a maximum of $10,000, to “Canada for Haiti.”
Shop at Cloverleaf on that day and you will be helping to donate to the people of Haiti (donations will not include purchases of tobacco, lottery tickets, or gasoline).
All monies raised will be matched by the federal government.
Cloverleaf would like to challenge other businesses in the district to donate a percentage of their sales to this worthy cause.

Lions Club International is offering residents of Emo and surrounding communities the chance to become members of a community Lions Club.
A recruiting team was on hand at the Emo Inn yesterday (Jan. 26).
New club consultant Joie Mills, from Cave City, Ky., flew in to assist a team of district Lions in signing up charter members in the new club.
Ivan Pollock, the district governor, also was on hand to answer questions and to greet new members.
Lions clubs provide the opportunity for people to give back; to benefit their communities in ways that improve lifestyles and help those less fortunate.
By becoming a Lions member, you can be an active volunteer, a member of a respected international organization, a leader in your community, and a friend to those in need.
One of the main purposes of the new organization will be to develop and promote community projects which will be of benefit to those living in Emo and the surrounding area.
Lions Clubs International is the largest service organization in the world, with clubs in more than 200 countries and territories.
A dedicated group of 25-30, or even more, would be instrumental in supporting existing projects in the community and launching new ones down the road.
This is your chance to join an exciting and worthwhile organization.
If you are interested in becoming a member, or know of someone who would like to join, there will be another Lions information meeting on Monday (Feb. 1) at 7 p.m. at the Emo Inn.
For more information, call Jim Martindale of the Voyageur Lions Club in Fort Frances at 274-7829 or via e-mail at valsmart@bell.net

Dave’s skate sharpening has changed location in Emo.
Terry Martin has purchased the business from David Lloyd and has moved it to his home at 31 Adelaide St. (near the arena).
Martin will be open week nights from 5-9 p.m., 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturdays, and noon-8 p.m. on Sundays.
Hockey skates cost $5 to sharpen while figure skates will be $10.
Lloyd recently spent some time training Martin, just like he was trained by Neil Carpenter, the number-one sharpener in Canada.
The business still will be known as Dave Skate Sharpening, and Martin will display the well-known sign in his window.
