Chamber sets date for business expo

Plans are in the works for the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s 2017 Business & Community Expo, which will take place April 21-22.
The event will be held at the Fort Frances Curling Club for a second year after last year saw more vendors and greater attendance with the change of location.
“We heard from a lot of the vendors, and we heard from a lot of the people that were able to partake in it, that they loved the new venue,” Chamber executive director Jennifer Soderholm told the Times.
“It was well-lit, it was very inviting,” she noted.
“It was that kind of warm event that people were drawn in and wanted to stay longer–it wasn’t a quick in and out kind of a thing.
“The restaurant upstairs at the curling club was open so people could stay and eat, and then come back down and enjoy it some more,” added Soderholm.
“We had a fantastic turnout last year.”
Many of the vendors also moved around quite a bit during the expo–putting the open space to good use.
This included one vendor letting people ride around on bikes while the Fort High First Responders practised their skills with backboards and other emergency response gear.
“It was really, really neat to see that kind of thing happening,” Soderholm enthused.
“They weren’t stuck in their booths and that was it,” she noted. “They took it outside of their booths and got people involved.
“People were drawn to different things that were there–it was great.”
The Chamber currently is in the process of contacting past vendors to see if they want to book space.
Booth spaces are now available, with an “early-bird deal” ($75 off) running until March 17.
This applies to both Chamber members and non-members.
Vendor packages and a floor plan of the expo site are available on the Chamber website at
The expo will run from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. on the Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the Saturday.
Admission will be $3 per person, with children 12 and under being free.
