Centre to be open on holiday

Press Release

The Sister Kennedy Centre here will be staying open on Thanksgiving Monday this year.
There will be regular activities and card games during the day, followed by a potluck dinner at 5 p.m. and then some entertainment.
All seniors (aged 55+) are welcome to attend.
Although the centre usually is closed on statutory holidays, acting manager Cindy Noble said the feedback she’s received indicated that seniors would like to see the centre stay open on some of them.
The Thanksgiving opening is on a trial basis.
“We’ll see how it goes this time and go from there,” said Noble.
In other centre news, the Tai Chi classes will resume next Wednesday (Oct. 14). Classes run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11-11:45 a.m.
The seniors’ yoga class, which is being held at the Memorial Sports Centre, will be starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 13).
To register for either of these classes, contact the Memorial Sports Centre at 274-4561.
Cindy Noble would welcome suggestions for other activities that would be of interest to local seniors at the Sister Kennedy Centre, which is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
In addition to card games and exercise programs, there is a fully-equipped woodworking shop, which is available to seniors who wish to work on their own projects.
As well, the coffee pot is always on and seniors are welcome to drop in for coffee any time.
At this time, Cindy also is looking for kitchen volunteers to make and serve coffee during the day.
This is a great way to meet new people and to get involved in the centre.
Call her at 274-7656 if you are interested in becoming a volunteer at the centre.
