Two different groups will receive the Northwest Catholic District School Board’s recognition of excellence during its regular monthly meeting, which goes tomorrow beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the board office here.
First will be Mme. Quesnel’s Grade 2 French Immersion class at St. Michael’s School.
The recommendation from principal Kelly Forbes explained that it is “for the compassion they have demonstrated in helping grant a dying wish to a nine-year-old boy with terminal cancer.”
According to the report, the young boy was told by his doctors in early October that he only had about one month to live.
“Since he was not likely to survive until Christmas, he wanted to celebrate Christmas early this year,” Forbes explained.
“To help celebrate his last Christmas, he and his family asked people from all over the world to send cards,” she added.
Mme. Quesnel’s class joined in the far-reaching show of kindness and sent cards to the boy, earning the recognition by taking time out to think of someone in need and helping make a boy’s last days as happy as possible.
The other group receiving the recognition will be the student council members at St. Francis School, as well as their teacher leaders, Melanie Busch and Angela Saciuk.
The recommendation was submitted by St. Francis principal Darlene Fejos Rousseau.
The student council members include Emma Yerxa, Emilia Saciuk, Peyton Morrison, Evan Strain, Sydney Anderson, ShayLynn Marchuk, Olivia Calder-Mainville, Christian Wiedenhoeft, Tatum Glowasky, Tessah Labbe, Camille Tucker, Darnell Kempf, Joe Hardy, and Montana Plasky.
“These students help prepare and have organized several activities this year, including a food drive, a Hallowe’en party for the junior students, a school dance, and run the student canteen,” Rousseau wrote.
“Mrs. Melanie Busch and Mrs. Angela Saciuk have been instrumental in the success of the student council again this year, and are to be commended on their participation in this program, which supports events for the entire school,” she added.
Also on the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting, trustees will:
•hear board reports on SEAC, the Joint Transportation Committee, and the Audit Committee;
•seek to approve the 2016-17 Audited Consolidated Financial Statements draft;
•receive information on the professional development “Faith Day” for all staff on Nov. 27;
