On Sunday evening, after the potluck supper and an afternoon of cards, games, and outdoor activities in conjunction with the 14th-annual Community Christmas Party and fun day, Freeda Carmody was recognized as La Vallee’s Senior of the Year for 2007.
This is no surprise to any of us who know the busy, active life that Freeda maintains.
Freeda is involved with the safety coalition, fundraising for the district handi-van, the Emo library board, and U.C.W., as well as being an excellent T.O.P.S. leader.
You also are likely to see Freeda out walking five-six miles a day or at Curves for Women in Fort Frances.
I’ve known Freeda for many years right back to teaching my two sons (now aged 29 and 24). And I can say without a doubt that Freeda is worthy of this prestigious award.
With her efforts and positive attitude, Rainy River District is a lot better place to live in.
Congratulations, Freeda, from your community!

A reminder that the Rainy River District Mutual Fire Aid Association is selling its cash calendars for 2008. These make great Christmas presents.
The calendars are available at the municipal office or from any fire department volunteer.

A reminder, as well, that ice candles can be purchased from Maxine Hayes at 274-6049 or the township office at 486-3452. These are for the candlelight service that will be held at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Everyone will meet at the cemetery of their choice and place their candle at the location of their choice.
Deadline for orders placed at the municipal office is Monday, Dec. 17 and the candles must be picked up by noon on Dec. 21.

Just to let you know that I have entered the dragon part of my life. Part of me has stopped . . . and the rest of me is draggin’.
