Canadians miss out on medal

In a condensed format, one loss can be the difference—and that’s exactly what happened to the Fort Frances Canadians Midget ‘AA’ hockey team in Duluth last weekend.
The Canadians tied Minnetonka 1-1 in their first game at the 23rd-annual Junior Gold tournament, with Jeff Cridland netting their lone goal.
But a 4-1 loss to Watertown, S.D. in their next game spelled doom as even a 6-4 win against Wessy’s Boys (Minneapolis) in their final game wasn’t enough to advance to Sunday’s medal round.
Jeff Gustafson had the Canadians’ lone goal in their loss and then scored twice against Wessy’s Boys. Cridland also notched two goals while Brandon Legarie and Brett Bodnarchuk added singles.
The Canadians face St. Thomas Aquinas in an exhibition game this Sunday (Feb. 15) beginning at 1 p.m. at the Emo Arena.
