THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Members of a second First Nation in northern Ontario are being evacuated due to the threat posed by wildfires in the region.
The City of Thunder Bay says it will host 101 evacuees from Deer Lake First Nation, who are expected to arrive this afternoon.
It says a remaining group of about 350 people will be evacuated to other communities in the province.
The city says the fire known as Red Lake 51 is burning 15 kilometres away from Deer Lake and growing in size due to weather conditions.
This weekend, up to 300 residents of Poplar Hill First Nation were evacuated to Thunder Bay due to the threat posted by another wildfire.
Thunder Bay says no additional evacuees are currently expected to arrive in the city.
