OTTAWA – Hydro Ottawa says only 300 customers are still without power following a deadly storm on May 21.
The utility says it has restored power to more than 179,000 homes and businesses.
Hydro One says progress has slowed in reconnecting more than 2,800 customers in Bancroft and Tweed.
A spokeswoman says the damage is so localized in those communities that power can only be restored one customer at a time.
Hydro One said on Wednesday that some rural, remote and island locations in Bancroft will be without power for several more days.
In the Tweed area, Hydro One has warned that a small number of customers may not have electricity for several more weeks due to the extraordinary level of damage.
The storm killed 11 people in Ontario and Quebec and left hundreds of thousands in the dark after high winds toppled countless hydro poles and trees.
Environment Canada has said the severe weather involved a derecho, a rare widespread windstorm associated with a line of thunderstorms, that developed near Sarnia, Ont., and moved northeast across the province, ending in Quebec City.
