Brown named as CAO

Press Release

Fort Frances council is extremely pleased to announce that Douglas D.C. Brown, currently the manager of Operations and Facilities for the municipality, has accepted its offer to serve as the town’s next chief administrative officer.
The appointment will be effective July 4, with the announcement to be made official at council’s next regular meeting on June 13.
Brown will replace Mark McCaig, who has served as CAO since May 1, 2004.
When council received the notice of retirement from McCaig, it started a competitive executive search for the next CAO.
The posting, which was open for one month, received 35 applications.
Council screened the pool of applicants and arrived at a short list of 12 candidates.
After tasking the short list candidates with a written deliverable, council then began a thorough interview process.
Brown’s appointment was a unanimous decision of council.
“I would like to personally thank mayor and council for providing me with the opportunity to be the chief administrative officer for this great organization,” said Brown.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the community [and] all members of our organization, including the many dedicated volunteers that have contributed to making Fort Frances a better place to live,” he added.
Brown assumed the role of manager of Operations and Facilities on July 28, 2003, and has enjoyed a very successful career with the town.
A long-time resident of Northwestern Ontario, Brown is a graduate of Atikokan High School, Confederation College, and Lakehead University.
He holds the designation of Professional Engineer and successfully has completed courses in municipal administration.
An avid sports and outdoors enthusiast, Brown is married to his wife, Joanne, and together they have two grown children, Dustin and Emily.
Council believes Brown’s proven technical expertise, enthusiasm, educational background, and integrity will be a great asset to the town.
Brown will work with McCaig to ensure a smooth transition.
