‘Bash sisters’ power Lynx to victory


Cindy Major and Roxanne Handorgan played the role of the “bash sisters” in Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League action Monday night.
Both clubbed homers to pace the Big Grassy Lynx (6-7) to a narrow 13-11 win over the Manitou T-Birdies (3-10).
Candace Handorgan earned the win while Summer Leonard took the loss.
Elsewhere, the first-place Northwest Bay Beavers (13-1) rolled to a 25-5 romp over the Fort Frances Her-ricanes (8-6).
Darcy Smith nabbed the win while Taylor Pagee was saddled with the loss.
The Red Gut Babes (11-3) cruised to a 19-4 drubbing of the Couchiching Lady Raiders (7-7).
Tracy Morningstar got the win while Jennifer Singleton was the losing pitcher.
Jarrah Tom was solid on the pitching rubber, meanwhile, as the last-place Sabaskong Tebinaak (1-9-1) earned its first win of the season in a 7-2 victory over the Emo Renegades (8-5).
Mykenzie Borger suffered the loss.
And Kaily Greengrass smashed another homer as the Fort Frances Mud Dogs (8-6) eked out a 9-8 win over the Fort Frances Angels (2-11).
Rachelle Yeo eanrned the win while Rylee Redford took the loss.
Redford also homered in a losing cause.
The Dawson Tigers (5-7) had the bye.
In action from last Wednesday night, the Beavers downed the Angels 5-1.
Darcy Smith earned the win while Rylee Redford was saddled with the loss.
Tracy Morningstar was stellar on the rubber as the Babes routed the Mud Dogs 14-1.
Rachelle Yeo was tagged with the loss.
In a high-scoring affair, the T-Birdies outlasted the Tigers 20-17.
“Chuck” Cochrane nabbed the win while Cass Teeple suffered the loss.
And the Her-ricanes topped the Lady Raiders 7-2, with Marissa Kerry earning the win while Grace Bragg took the loss.
The game between the Tebinaak and host Lynx was postponed and now is scheduled for this coming Monday (July 16).
The Renegades had the bye last Wednesday.
