Badiuk rink tops bonspiel

Local curler Mike Badiuk (skip) and his team, made up of Mitch Sequin, Sean Murray, and Travis Showalter, placed first at the Fort Frances men’s bonspiel held over the weekend.
The players are just 18 and 19 years old.

Cards were played at the Devlin Hall on March 25. Bob Meyers and Mary Lou Allan took the hight while the low went to Jim and Yvonne Kellar.
The next card games at the Devlin Hall will be played April 8 starting at 7 p.m. The cost is $5, which includes lunch.

The Emo Legion held its weekly card games last Wednesday evening, with the high score going to Roy Elias and Nicole Drennan. The low was taken by Agnes Waldeck and Debbie.

The Emo Legion will host “Crafts Galore” on April 18-19 in conjunction with Spring Fever Days (April 17-19).

A basketball game featuring the Harlem Ambassadors versus the Can Am Hoopsters will be played Thursday, April 17 at 6 p.m. at the high school gym over in International Falls.
This event is sponsored by the Fort Frances Muskie Sports Association and the Bronco Basketball Boosters.

“Valdy” will be performing at the Townshend Theatre in Fort Frances on Saturday, April 19.
Tickets cost $15 in advance and $18 at the door, which are available at Betty’s, The UPS Store, Devlin Post Office, Cloverleaf, and Rainy River Drugs.
This event also is presented by the Muskie Sports Association.

The Guthrie United Church in Devlin will hold a garage sale this Saturday (April 5) from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Donations can be dropped off at the church up until Friday.

Guthrie United Church also is hosting a “Spring Fling Auction” at the Devlin Hall on Sunday, April 13. There also will be a live auction, penny table, and bake table, as well as a luncheon.
Admission is $5 each.

The “Spring Gathering” takes place this Saturday (April 5) at the Chapple rec centre. Tickets are $10 each, which includes a meal and entertainment from the famous cowboy humourist, “Rhymin” Diamond Doug Keith.
Tickets can be purchased from district merchants, the Rainy River Federation of Agriculture directors, and the Rainy River Future Development Corp. offices in Emo and Fort Frances.

We still have families of Dance and the Municipality of La Vallee that have not responded to calls for information for inclusion in the second history book, but we have been kept busy with the ones who have.
We will be pre-selling the next book so watch for the notice in upcoming columns.
The first book, “Connections: A History of the La Vallee Municipality,” is still available at the municipal office in Devlin as well as at the Fort Frances Museum.
