The Fort Frances Curling Club will be hosting an Introduction to Wheelchair Curling, in anticipation of the Northern Ontario Provincial Wheelchair Championships. The event is open to the general public and free of charge. It will take place Friday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Fort Frances Curling Club, 300 Eighth St. E.
The Fort Frances Muskie Boys will be holding their annual Tea and Bake Sale from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Knox United Church. Enjoy refreshments, sandwiches, dainties, a penny table and door prizes. Admission is $5.
The Fort Frances Public Library is holding a special evening with local author Ian Jarvis, who will be reading from his book “Light in the Sky”, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. Copies will be available to purchase for $32 and light refreshments will be served.
The Fort Frances Muskie Girls will take on the Sioux North Warriors at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Ice for Kids Arena. Tickets are $7 for adults; $2 for youth ages 13-18; and free for children 12 and under.
Kids & Company will present Chris McKhool on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Townshend Theatre. A violin sensation, Chris gets children and families dancing, clapping, laughing and singing songs. Tickets cost $12 in advance (available online at or $15 at the door. Kids 3 and under are free.
A Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Knox United Church. Everyone is welcome, and a freewill offering will be accepted.
The Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its next monthly supper–featuring roast beef–on Friday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30). Admission is $16/person, with take-outs available by calling 274-3772. Bring a friend!
Backus Community Centre is presenting “Church of Cash” at the Backus Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28. Church of Cash is a world class Johnny Cash Tribute that stays loyal to the songs and message of the Man in Black. Tickets are $12 for adults; $5 for children age 6 to 18; kids under 5 free. The 38th Annual Nestor Falls Winter Carnival will take place at the Nestor Falls Community Hall beginning Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8. Come on out for a weekend of fun activities for the entire family, including a fish cook-off, fish derby and “All you can eat” pancake and sausage breakfast.
The Rainy River Figure Skating Club presents “Blades on Broadway” for two shows only; Saturday, March 7 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. Advance tickets are $7 for adults; $5 for kids 12 and under; kids 4 & under are free.

The Fort Frances Public Library holds a number of weekly events for kids of all ages:
•Tween Club Tuesdays are held every Tuesday from 4-5 p.m. Join us each Tuesday afternoon for fun and informative activities geared for youth.
•Story Time Wednesdays are held every Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Read, play, and make new friends with parents, caregivers and children. This free program is filled with stories, finger rhymes and songs.
•Baby Time Thursdays are held every Thursday from 10:30-11:15 a.m. Bouncing and tickling rhymes, songs and stories that will make your baby smile.
•Craft Club Saturdays are held every Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Drop-in and create some wild and wacky crafts to take home! Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

The Fort Frances Museum and Cultural Centre is opening its new exhibit “Canada: Day 1,” which tells the story of immigration to Canada. The museum will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
