“Bob Wepruk & the Northern Jammers” will hold a free concert tonight (Aug. 2) from 6-8 p.m. at the Rainy Lake Square. Their country and bluegrass tunes will be sure to get you dancing. Also be sure to bring a lawn chair.
The Halkirk fire protection team will hold its 27th-annual fish fry on Saturday, Aug. 4 from noon-6 p.m. at the Bear Pass fire hall (Bear Pass Road). A bouncy castle will be on hand again this year. Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for kids (pop and dessert included). There also will be homemade pies. No dogs please!
A benefit dinner to support the family of heart transplant patient Curtis Jourdain is set for Saturday, Aug. 4 from 5-7 p.m. at the Couchiching Multi-Use Building, with the cost being $15/plate. Stock car racing action goes Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Emo Speedway, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first race at 7:30 (weather permitting). Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for seniors/students, with those aged nine and under being free.

“Voices” Summer Camp 2018 will be held from Sunday, Aug. 12-Thursday, Aug. 16 at Quetico Centre. This free, five-day sleep-away camp experience is suitable for children up to age 16 (and their moms) who have experienced abuse in their own homes. The Rainy Lake Community Orchestra is holding a “Summer String Camp” for string players of all ages and abilities. Practices will be held at the Ranier Community Building in Ranier, Mn. beginning on Sunday, Aug. 12. Registration is not required. The Rainy Lake Sinfonia (youth and less-experienced players) will rehearse from 4-5 p.m. each day, Sunday through Thursday. The Rainy Lake Orchestra (adult and advanced students) will practice from 5:30-7 p.m. each day. A free concert then will be held on Friday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Ranier Community Building. The next “Open Air Art Studio,” presented by Community Living Fort Frances and District, will be held Monday, Aug. 13 from 3-7 p.m. at Point Park. The theme will be the Japanese art of Shibori dyeing. The session is free, and all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.
The Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society will hold its annual fall fair Aug. 16-18 at the Emo fairgrounds. Advance midway tickets, which cost $28 (a savings of $5), are available until the evening of Aug. 16 at Wilson’s and Fort Frances General Supply (Fort Frances), Dev-Lynne’s (Devlin), Tompkins Hardware, Village Variety, and Cloverleaf (Emo), the Stratton Café (Stratton), and the Beaver Mills Market (Rainy River).
“Night at the Museum,” featuring games, a movie, flashlight tours, snacks, and more for children aged five-12, will be held at the Fort Frances Museum on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 5-9 p.m. Only 35 spots are available, with the cost being $10 per child.
