English-style fish ’n chips will be served at St. John’s Anglican Church today (June 30) until 6 p.m.
Hot air balloon rides will be offered today (June 30) from 6-9 p.m. and again Saturday, July 1 from 7-9:30 a.m. and 6-9 p.m. (weather permitting) in the area in front of the Holiday Inn in International Falls.
A pancake breakfast, hosted by the local Legion ladies, will kick off Canada Day festivities on Saturday, July 1 from 7-10 a.m. upstairs at the Legion. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10, and everyone is welcome.
The Clover Valley Farmers’ Market will not be open on Saturday, July 1 due to the Canada Day holiday.
The annual Canada Day parade will be held Saturday, July 1 starting at 11 a.m. at the Sorting Gap Marina (the route will follow Front Street to the Legion). See Wednesday’s Times for a complete schedule of all the other Canada Day activities.
Stock car racing will be held at the Emo Speedway on Saturday, July 1 (weather permitting). Hot laps are at 7 p.m., with the first race at 7:30. Vintage cars and fireworks also will be featured this week.

“Mermaid Magic” (art and stories), organized by the Fort Frances Museum, is slated for Thursday, July 6 from 2:30-4 p.m. at the gazebo at the Sorting Gap Marina. Then head there on Thursday, July 13 to take part in a scavenger hunt.
A ceremony to officially open the Cranberry Peatland Interpretive Trail (bog walk), created by the Rainy River Valley Field Naturalists, will be held Thursday, July 6 at 7 p.m. The trail is located at the far end of Whitmore Road in Crozier via Highway 611 South.
“Butterflies Sky,” a folk duo, will perform Thursday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Backus Auditorium in International Falls. Tickets cost $10 (U.S.) at the door.
The Rendezvous Yacht Club is offering free sailing each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. from July 11-Aug. 1 (rain or shine, unless there’s lightning). Just meet at the Rendez-Vous dock here or at Woody’s dock in Ranier. For more info, call Carol Mackintosh at 274-5736.
