Yvonne Rose Zimowski (nee Duivenvoorden) passed away with her family at her side at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Thunder Bay, Ont. on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Yvonne is remembered by her loving husband, Cas; daughters, Shannon and Karleen; father, Theodore; and brothers and sisters, Marlene (Luis), Erick (Ellen), Connie (Dan), Michael (Shelagh), and Harold (Krista).
Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Leokadia, and father-in-law, Ignacy Kowalski; sisters-in-law, Irene (Don), and Vicki (Jeff); brothers-in-law, John (Marilyn), and Henry; and nephews and nieces, Debra, Paul, Aaron, Andy, Karen, Allison, Jennifer, Colin, Rosana, Max, Elizabeth, Sebastian, Brendan, Laura, Clare, and Kathleen, Sydney, and Bailey (and family pet, Snowball).
She was predeceased by her mother, Apolonia; and niece, Fleur.
Yvonne dedicated her life to her husband and children; her family came first and foremost. She enjoyed sewing for her girls, gardening, and outdoor activities. Family gatherings were an important part of her life.
Yvonne grew up on the family farm in Devlin, Ont. She was proud of a lengthy career with Canada Customs.
Thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Cancer Centre, the staff at Amethyst House and St. Joe’s, and volunteers at Via Vitae. Special thanks to family physician, Dr. K.L. Arnold.
Thank you to family who came from across Canada and the United States to Yvonne’s side during her time of need.
Funeral mass was held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Thunder Bay, followed by a private family interment.
Friends were invited to join the family at the Oliver Road Recreational Centre in Thunder Bay at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Northwestern Ontario Cancer Society or Amethyst House.
