It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Winona Evelyn (Eve) Cottam, 79, of Emo, Ont., on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo.
Eve was born Oct. 16, 1926 in Barwick, Ont. to the late Stanley and Ethel Hyatt.
On Oct. 11, 1943, she was united in marriage to Robert Cottam and the couple spent the next 50-plus years working side by side running Red Deer Lodge in Nestor Falls, Ont.
After retiring, Bob and Eve moved to Emo, where Eve spent the rest of her years. She was an avid curler and proud to have made the curling playdowns in past years.
She also enjoyed sewing, ceramics, fishing, boating, and spending time with her family.
Eve was a member of the Nestor Falls United Church and the U.C.W. She also was the founder and leader of the C.G.I.T., and was very active in the Sunday School program.
She was a loving and caring person, with a happy disposition and a warm heart. She always was ready to lend a helping hand to those around her and always made it a fun experience for everyone.
Eve will be lovingly missed by her husband of 62 years, Robert Cottam of Emo, Ont.; one son, Robert Jr. and wife. Wilda, of Victoria, B.C.; two daughters, Nancy Rigato of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Sherin Hagen and husband, Larry, of Fort Frances, Ont.; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and husband, Andrew, Katherine, Roberta, Melissa, Jeffrey, Jaclynn, and Danielle; two great-grandchildren, Andrew Jr. and Nathan; one sister, Dorothy Butlin of Erie, Penn.; and many special friends and relatives.
Eve was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Ethel Hyatt; and three sisters, Audrey Swanton, Lorna Lloyd, and her twin, Yvonne Hughes.
A celebration of Eve’s life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont., with United Church minister Peggy Mason officiating.
Interment will take place in the Norman Cottam Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Nestor Falls at a later date.
The honourary pallbearers will be all of Eve’s family and friends.
