The family of Willie McGuire sadly announces her passing in the evening on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 at Matheson General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 68.
Born on April 15, 1941 in Grand Valley, Willimene Jane Black was the smallest of the twins, weighing just over three pounds. She spent her first three months of life in Toronto Sick Kids.
She was wed to Larry on Dec. 12, 1964 and lived in Waldemar. In 2007 for retirement, they moved to Matheson to enjoy the vast outdoors and be close to their best friends, her twin sister and her husband.
Mom was know for her quilts, her large vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and later her flower beds.
She was an active member in the church they attended, and was a past member of the Women’s Institute and 4-H clubs. She walked daily and enjoyed joining Dad for numerous hunting and fishing trips. She quite often out-fished the boys with either the largest fish or most fish caught!
The coffee pot was always on and the kitchen always had a welcoming aroma coming from the oven.
She always cooked enough for company, which she enjoyed. There are many great memories from around the kitchen and dining room tables.
She was the first to be there if you needed help. She was a selfless woman who believed the gift was in the giving of time and had very little wants.
She relished in the beauty of nature.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 45 years, Larry, and their three sons and families, Dr. Jeremy McGuire and his wife, Catherine, and their sons, Kurtwood and Chase, of Fort Frances, Ont., Cst. Clancey McGuire and his wife, Manon Racine, and her sons, Jonah and Chad Graham, of Waldemar, and Cst. Morley McGuire and his wife, Deanna, and their children, Kaelynn and Braedon of Orangeville, Ont.
Also suviving are her twin sister, Winnifred Pearce and her husband, Robert, and their family of Matheson; her sisters, Ellen Bryan and her husband, Ken, and their family of Grand Valley and Margaret Foran and her family of Lucknow; as well as her husband’s nine siblings and all their families.
She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret (Waugh) Black, in 1941; her father, David, in 1993; her mom, Ivadelle (Thompson) Black, in 2008; and Larry’s parents, Barbara (Zavitz) McGuire in 1990 and George McGuire in 1994.
A memorial service in Grand Valley is planned for the spring.
