WILLIAM JAMES TORSETH JR.

Torseth, William

William James Torseth Jr. passed away on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 at the Silver Bay Veterans Home after a very long battle with FTL dementia.
William (Bill) was born on May 1, 1946 at the Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Wash. to William Sr. and Alyce Torseth.
After his father was discharged from the service, the family returned home to International Falls, Mn., where Bill attended public school and graduated in 1964 from Falls High School. He then attended Bemidji State for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1966.
Bill was stationed in Cam Ranh Bay during the Vietnam conflict, then served as a crew member on P3 aircraft searching the North Atlantic for submarines.
Honourably discharged in 1970, he returned home to International Falls, where he worked briefly as a navy recruiter, and at Boise Paper, while working to obtain his real estate licence.
There were countless business endeavours before he eventually settled into a career as a residential real estate appraiser.
He and Linda, whom he married in 1988, moved to St. Cloud, Mn. in 1989, where they established themselves as a well-respected appraisal team.
Because Bill’s heart always was in the Falls, after 10 years in St. Cloud, he and Linda moved back in November, 1999. Bill continued in the appraisal business until his illness forced him to retire.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, William Sr. and Alyce Torseth; and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda; son, Trevor (Jamie) of Los Angeles, Calif.; stepdaughter, Vicki Kellsey of Victoria, B.C.; stepson, Vince Kellsey (Rose) of Malaysia; grandson, Lucas Ilkka of Victoria, B.C.; sister, Cynthia ( Maurice) of Murrieta, Calif.; and brothers-in-law, Phil Graham and Bill (Gail) Duck.
He also is survived by his nephew, Jay Julien (June) and niece, Jeri Weitz; and two great-nephews, two great-nieces, and numerous cousins.
Bill will be remembered for his love of life, great smile, hearty laugh, music (especially Christmas carols), and, most importantly, his love for family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in International Falls.
If so desired, in memoriam donations would be to First Lutheran Church, 123 Wayside Lane, International Falls, Mn., 56649.
