Peacefully, on Sept. 3, 2008 at the Atikokan General Hospital in Atikokan, Ont., William “Bill” Steele of Atikokan passed away at the age of 77.
Bill was born July 8, 1931 to the late Norman and Christine (nee Witherspoon) Steele. He left school at a young age and worked with various types of heavy equipment over the years.
He moved to Atikokan in the early 1980s, where he hauled wood right up until his retirement.
Bill was a bachelor, but loved other’s company and sometimes would make two or three trips a week back to Emo, Ont. to visit with family and friends.
Bill enjoyed trips to his cabin on Perch Lake, where he kept his yard meticulously. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, planting trees, and feeding the birds and squirrels. His siblings knew they were welcome to stay at his cabin any time.
Bill is survived by his sister, Laverne (Ken) Desserre of Stratton, Ont.; and by many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Donny, Norman (Sonny), Gary, and Bobby; and sisters, Jean Hayes, Gladys Desserre, Lila Golding, and Peggy Larson.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Northridge Funeral Home in Emo, with Rev. Frances Flook officiating.
Interment took place in Burriss Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Bobby Steele, Pat Steele, Len Anderson, Jerry Steele, Fred Munro, and Larry Steele.
