William R. Dustin, a resident of Thunder Bay, Ont., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009 at the age of 73 after a lengthy illness.
After retiring from the Thunder Bay Police Department at age 50, Bill continued working in his other businesses and opened Dusty’s Car Care.
He officially retired from all at about age 60, spending most of his leisure time travelling on his motorcycle or in his motor home.
In his younger days, Bill was a fastball pitcher. He also was an avid curler, participating in many police playdowns.
He also loved watching hockey.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Carrie (Doug) Martin of Mississauga, Ont., Julie Dustin (Steve LeBlanc) of Ottawa, Ont., and Cathy (Gary) Trewin of Thunder Bay, Ont.; sons, Larry, Will, and Rick (Karen and daughter, Kait) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; and grandchildren, Kristen Trewin, Robert and Sean Martin, Jillian and Carly Dustin, and Patrick Dustin-LeBlanc.
He also is survived by his sisters, Donna (Larry) Pihulak of Dryden, Ont., Fawn Dustin (John Sutton) of Fort Frances, Ont., Cheryl (Charles) Arnould of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Bonnie (Floyd) Wood of B.C.; his uncle, Lawrence (June) Freeman of London, Ont.; as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Gertrude Dustin; daughter, Robin; son, Robert; and niece, Melani Sutton.
As to Bill’s last wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery at a later date.
