WILLIAM (BILL) PAUL SZLAUKO

Szlauko, Bill

On January 25, 2021 Bill Szlauko passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at Rainy River Hospital.

He was born to Paul and Anna Szlauko in Deerlock, Ontario on February 25, 1934.

Bill was a faithful member of the Knox United Church, the Rainy River Legion, the curling club and the Baudette Moose.

Back in 1953 he hired on with CN Rail, first as a fireman, then as an engineer. He loved his job of 38 ½ years and still enjoyed watching the trains go by from his dining room window.

Bill was certainly a man with many talents, his love for music, he was able to play many instruments; the building of his cabin with his son, and many curling bonspiels. Bill traveled with family from coast to coast enjoying Canada and convoys with friends. A life well lived.

He lovingly left behind his wife Gayleen (Gunderson) whom he married 61 years ago at Knox United Church in Fort Frances; his brother John (Eleanor) of Quesnel, B.C.; his children Bob Szlauko, Sandy Spence (Tim); grandchildren Matthew, Torrie, Tyler and Paige; brothers-in-law Glen Gunderson, Morley Gunderson (Melanie); and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his youngest daughter Coreen; sons-in-law Ken and Mark; sister-in-law Silvia Gunderson; his parents Paul and Anna Szlauko; in-laws Magnus and Ann Gunderson.

A service to be announced at a later date.

If you so desire donations can be made in Bill’s memory to the Rainy River Hospital Auxiliary, c/o of Northridge Funeral Home Ltd., Box 89, Emo, ON P0W 1E0.
