William “Bill” Charles Williams, 76, of 229 Fourth St. W., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 1998 at La Verendrye General Hospital. He was born Jan. 31, 1922 in Westbury upon Severn in England to the late Harry and Daisy Williams.
Bill was a veteran of World War II, having served overseas with the R.A.F. in North Africa. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 in Fort Frances. He also was past president of Br. 29, past deputy and district commander, and past zone commander.
He immigrated to Canada in 1947 and settled in Fort Frances in 1948. He had worked as a bookkeeper for Mel Newman in Fort Frances and Atikokan, and later worked for E.E. Doman Ltd. He then established “Bill’s Bookkeeping,” which he operated until his death.
He loved his family, and home and his church, and all his family at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church. He had a great love for England and he enjoyed singing, especially singing “Danny Boy” at the Legion.
He also loved his garden, flowers, and reading.
Bill was united in marriage Oct. 15, 1949 to the former Phyllis Ireton, who predeceased him March 7, 1996. He also was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Daisy.
Bill is survived by his six children, Don Williams (Lynne), Carol (Isaac) Beazley, Bev (Bob) McIntyre and Cathy (Charles) Rodier, all of Winnipeg, Man., Pam Williams of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Susan Williams of Winnipeg, Man.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Jean Hobson of Derby, England; two brothers, Don Williams (Iris) of Bagington, England, and Harold Williams (Audrey) of Coventry, England; and one half-sister, Jean Scowen of Coventry, England.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 9, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, with Rev. Garth Clifford officiating.
Cremation will take place in Thunder Bay at a later date.
Special thank to Dad’s neighbours and friends, and the VON and home care workers who made it possible for Dad to fulfill his wishes to remain in his own home, especially remembering Kim and Sabrina, Fern, and Don and Sandra Johnson.
Pallbearers will be his grandson, Josh Williams, his sons-in-law, Bob McIntyre, Isaac Beazley, and Charles Rodier, and his friends from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Fort Frances.
