Wilhelm “Willie” Gronvold, 92, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Saturday, April 10, 1999 at his residence.
Willie was born Feb. 6, 1907 in Norway but moved to Canada in 1926 and settled in Rainy River District. He was self-employed and worked in the bush logging, as well as a dynamic man in some of the local mines.
In 1929, he moved to Arbor Vitae, Ont. and later to Emo, Ont. before moving to Fort Frances.
Willie was united in marriage to Rozalia “Rose” Lakatos in June, 1952. He enjoyed the outdoors and its wildlife, the quietness of home, spending time and with friends and family, and always had a love for little children.
He was predeceased by his wife, Rose on May 11, 1997; and a sister in Norway.
Willie is survived by his three daughters, Muriel and husband, Tony Medek, of St. Thomas, Ont., Margaret Lundquist of International Falls, Mn., and Rose Marie Harrison of Thunder Bay, Ont.; three sons, Bill Brown and wife, Bertha, of Barwick, Ont., Lawrence Tisch of Oldcastle, Ont., and George Wiatrowski and wife, Lisa, of Windsor, Ont.; 28 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters in Norway; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Lakatos of Fort Frances, Ont., and Helen Hajdu of Winnipeg, Man.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Pastor Dan Pearson officiated, with interment in Chapple Cemetery in Barwick, Ont.
Friends visited prior to the service.
