Wayne Edward Joseph Morrisseau, 61, of Couchiching First Nation, Ont., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 11, 2006.
He was born Jan. 27, 1945 in Fort Frances, Ont. and lived on Couchiching First Nation all his life.
Wayne was best known to everyone by his nickname, “Scamp.” He loved fishing and golfing at Heron Landing with his family and friends. You usually could hear him laughing and teasing all those he loved.
He had love and compassion for his nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews, and was a great role model for them. To all who knew him, Scamp exemplified what it meant to be an inspirational and loving child of the Creator.
At his home and his spot at the gas bar on Couchiching, Scamp loved to sell hockey pool and visit with friends.
He was predeceased by his mother, Cecile Morrisseau on Oct. 22, 1995; one sister, Lisa Margaret Anne Morrisseau on Aug. 17, 1996; his soulmate and love of his life, Angel Medicine; grandparents, Alfred and Margaret Morrisseau; uncles, Harry, Emil, and Daniel; and aunt, Marjorie.
He will be sadly missed by his father, Albert Morrisseau; children, Kristie, Curtis, and John Medicine; uncles, Maurice T. Godin and Robert Godin of Winnipeg, Man.; and aunts, Louise Morrisseau and Melvina Morrisseau of Couchiching First Nation, Ont.
Scamp also leaves behind his brothers and sisters, Priscilla Simard (George), Valerie Norris (Laurie), Calvin Morrisseau (Mona-Rose), Roberta Bruyere (Dennis), Arlene Tucker and fiancé, Ken Carmody, and Alvin Morrisseau of Fort Frances, Ont., Michael Morrisseau of Sault Ste. Marie, and Leslie Morrisseau of Ironwood, Mich.
Scamp also is survived by his nieces and nephews, Jenna, Jodie, and Steven Tucker, Dylan and Estelle Simard, Susan Blight, Craig Tough and Shannon Blight, Tammy, Aleta, and Ashley Bruyere, Daniel, Calvin Jr., Jason, Tyson, and Nakita-Rose Morrisseau, Nick Hunter, Brooke Morrisseau, Lisa, Alexis, and Cody Morrisseau; grand nieces and grand nephews, Fawn, Fallen, Julie, Kailey, Logan, Cheyenne, Mason, Brayden, Jeremy, Kaya, Trent, Keira, Jada, Caleb, Celeste, Austin Albert, and Emma Lynn; and the many friends and numerous relatives who have been part of his life.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 15, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Couchiching First Nation. Fr. Francis Pudicherry will officiate, with interment in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
A wake will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2006 from 6 p.m. at the Bingo Hall at Couchiching First Nation. Parish prayers will be offered at 7 p.m. led by Deacon Elmer Mainville.
Pallbearers will be Harry Klyne, Ian Perreault, Mitch Perreault, Dennis Roach, Ray Klyne, and Derek Mainville.
The honourary pallbearers will be Lana Mainville, Donna Bird, Denise Clendenning, Diane Kasper, Colleen Perreault, Cathy Perreault, Lucille Morrisseau, Sean Taggart, and Brent Tookenay.
