Former Minnesota resident Warner A. “Bud” La Du, 84, passed away following an extended illness on Feb. 24, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nev.
He was born Oct. 11, 1927 to F. Warner and Hazel (Crowe) La Du in International Falls, Mn., where he attended local schools.
After graduation, Warner worked two years at the Minnesota Dakota and Western Railway.
He served in the U.S Army during the Korean War and, upon his return to the U.S., studied at the Minneapolis School of Business. He held bookkeeping positions in Cincinnati and Minneapolis before moving to Las Vegas in 1973.
There he made his home and worked as a bookkeeper at the Lady Luck Casino until his retirement.
Warner is remembered as a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humour. He enjoyed reading and listening to music, especially Sarah Vaughn, Billy Eckstine, and George Shearing.
He is survived by his sister, Frances (La Du) Peterson (the late Bill) and niece, Francie Anderson (Mark), both of St. Peter, Mn.; and nephews, Robin Saunders (Dianne) of Pembroke, Ont., Dr. Scott Saunders (Stephenie) of St. Louis, Mo., and Dennis Peterson (Nancy) of Ames, Iowa.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Audrey Saunders (the late Bill).
There will be a private family memorial service later this spring at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Mn.
