Walter Dokuchie, 78, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998 at La Verendrye General hospital.
He was born Oct. 22, 1920 in Sundown, Man. to the late Maxime and Nellie Dokuchie.
Walter had worked for years as a logger and trucker in the Thunder Bay area, and for John Stewart in the Kenora area around Nestor Falls. He later drove taxi for a few years before starting his own towing service.
Walter is survived by two daughters, Charmaine (Brock) Herbert of Fort Frances, Ont., and Sandra (Dennis) Ice of International Falls, Mn.; and three sons, Brad and wife, Julie, of Thunder Bay, Ont., Dale and wife, Carolyne, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Jerome and wife, Pat, of Thunder Bay, Ont.
Also surviving are special friends, Calvin and Donna Smith and their children, Jacob and Joel; five grandchildren, Janelle Ice, Dylan Ice, Danielle Herbert, and Bronson and Marissa Dokuchie; four sisters, Lucy (Nick) Phillips, Jenny Lambert, Millie (Dave) Allen, and Julia (Ralph) Madill; seven brothers, Alex (Myrtle), Mike (Arvena), Sirhey (Irene), Victor (Gloria), Andrew (Elaine), Gerald (Linda), and Harry (Gilda); as well as 38 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Joe Dokuchie.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at Green Funeral Home. Father Ed Kosa O.M.I. will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
Friends may visit Monday, Dec. 21, 1998 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be offered at 7:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Robert Dokuchie, Joseph Dokuchie, Max Dokuchie, Marlin Madill, Michael Madill, and Dennis Ice.
