After a lengthy but courageous and dignified battle, our dear husband and father, Walter, aged 80, passed away Aug. 2, 2007 at St. Boniface Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Marion; three sons, Richard (Aline), Rodger, and Raymond; granddaughter, Selina (Chris Kuyp); great-granddaughters, Tianna and Talia; and grand-stepson, Josef.
He will be remembered by his brothers, Stanley and Andrew and their families; and his good neighbours and friends.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Anton (Tony) Lepinsky; brother, James; and grandson, Nathan.
Walter worked for the CNR for 38 years and had engaging stories from his earliest years of track-laying and maintenance gang-cars to the CNR express, baggage department, and car control.
In an era of specialists, he was an avid do-it-yourselfer, conservationist, recycler, auto-mechanic, genealogist, accountant, and more.
Walter was born in Fort Frances, Ont. and married Marion on Nov. 25, 1948. They built their home in Winnipeg, Man. in the 1950s and lived in it for the duration of his lifetime.
Walter lived a neighbourly and thoughtful life, and will be remembered for his quick wit and clever puns.
Cremation has taken place and an informal gathering in honour of Wally’s life will take place Sept. 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, 220 Helmsdale Ave., Winnipeg, Man.
Interment will take place in the family plot in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances on Sept. 28 at 10 a.m., followed by lunch at the former CN station.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Access Center, Respite Care, Home Care, St. Boniface Palliative Care Staff, and especially the entire St. Stephen’s Church family.
