Wallace Wilson, 62, of Rainy River First Nations, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. on Monday, Dec. 20, 1999.
He was born July 31, 1937 in Emo, Ont. to the late Albert and Lucy Wilson. Wallace guided in the Rainy River District area for many years.
In 1962, he was united in marriage to Hilda Hawk, who later predeceased him Dec. 20, 1982. Following his wife’s passing, he met a special friend and later companion, Lucy Hunter, who also predeceased him.
Wallace loved sports, especially fishing, and spending a lot of time with his family.
He also was predeceased by his son, Bruce Wilson; daughter, Sharon Wilson; brother, Gordon Wilson Sr.; and sister, Edna Duguay.
Wallace is survived by his children, Albert Wilson and wife, Barbara, and Sheila Wilson and husband, Peter Vivie, all of Fort Frances, Ont., Keith Wilson and wife, Dawn, of Atikokan, Ont., Terry Wilson and wife, Lisette, of Fort Frances, Ont., Roger Wilson and wife, Patty, of Minnesota, Wally Wilson and wife, Denise, of St. Paul, Mn., Sherry Wilson and husband, John Barras, of Rainy River First Nations, Ont., Jeff Brown and wife, Tracy Neilson, of Barwick, Ont., and Shawn Brown of Calgary, Alta.; 24 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by three brothers, Raymond Wilson and Allan Wilson of Rainy River First Nations, Ont., and James Frenette of Thunder Bay, Ont.; three sisters, Irene Frenette of Thunder Bay, Ont., Lucille Frenette of Atikokan, Ont., and Jean Wilson of Minneapolis, Mn.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 24, 1999 at 10 a.m. at the Rainy River First Nations Gymnasium in Rainy River First Nations, Ont., with Father James Panikulam officiating.
A wake was held Thursday evening at the Rainy River First Nations Gymnasium.
Pallbearers were Conrad Wilson, B.J. Wilson, Rob Archie, Albert Wilson Jr., John Barras, and Leroy Wilson.
Honourary pallbearers were Jimmy Leonard, Rupert Hunter, Albert Hunter Jr., Peter Vivie, Joe Shebagegit, and Ray Adams.
