Violet passed away at 98 years, peacefully with her family at her side in the early morning on March 2, 2021.

She was born in Kingsford Township Emo to the late Margaret and William Bennell on December 10, 1922.

As a young girl she worked with her sisters in her father’s shingle mill bundling shingles. Later she worked in Dearlock, Ont. for Audry and Johnny Haney helping look after children and housekeeping.

She met our father Edward Strom while working in Dearlock. They were married in Fort Frances on September 17, 1943 in the United Church. They were only married three weeks when Dad was called into the army. Mom remained on the farm with granddad, John Haney and cared for him while Dad was in service.

They enjoyed life on the farm in Dearlock. for many years. Family was always very important to mom.

They moved to the farm on Highway 71 in 1970. Unfortunately Ed passed away on May 9, 1977 at the early age of 58 years. Violet remained in the country until 1992 when she moved to her home in Emo. She remained in her little home until she was 95. Violet enjoyed making meals for her family and coffee with her friends. She was known for her ability to make a meal in no time!

Each of her family members have a wonderful embroidered quilt made with her loving hands. She often knitted mitts for her children too.

Moms first love was her family, she loved chickens and gardening, especially her flowers. She really enjoyed the wood heat at her son Donnie and Sharon’s home whenever she visited.
