Viola Mildred Seltzer, 87, of Rainycrest Long-Term Care in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence on Friday, April 18, 2008.
Viola was born Jan. 11, 1921 in Blue Township, Ont., where she grew up on the family farm. She had worked in housekeeping at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances and at various tourist resorts in the district.
She later moved to Atikokan, Ont., where she lived for many years before moving to Fort Frances.
She enjoyed crocheting and playing cards, and was a past member of various ladies groups in Atikokan. She also enjoyed going to the Legion and the Pioneer Centre in Atikokan.
She was united in marriage on Oct. 12, 1937 to William Frances Seltzer, who predeceased her in May, 1990. She also was predeceased by her daughter, Janet; parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Selman; one brother, George; and four sisters, Mamie, Belle, Olive, and Verna.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Helen (Ken) O’Neill of Fort Frances, Ont., Les (Doris) of Moosejaw, Sask., Dorothy Ross of Ear Falls, Ont., Norman (Diane) of Wilkie, Sask., and Ray (Jenny) of Lively, Ont.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Lillian Ojier of Devlin, Ont., and Rena Caouette of Rainy River, Ont.; one brother, Martin (Lorna) of Fort Frances, Ont.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Rainy River, with Rev. Barb Miller officiating.
Interment will take place in the Blue Cemetery in Blue Township.
Friends visited prior to the service at Knox United Church.
The pallbearers were Norman Ross, Owen Seltzer, Ian Seltzer, Doug Moldowan, Danny Moldowan, and Kim Gosselin.
