With her son by her side, Vi Atamaniuk passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora, Ont. at the age of 85.
She is survived by her son, Kevin (Laura) Atamaniuk and granddaughters, Casey and Neely; sister, Margaret Kreger; niece, Audrey Anderson; and nephew, Ken Kreger.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Atamaniuk; and parents, Axel and Janet Mattson.
Viola was born in Bergland, Ont. and enjoyed the country life. She worked at various fishing camps in Northern Ontario before meeting Bill “Tiny” Atamaniuk and settling in Kenora.
She worked for Woolworths and the hospital, and spent her free time on Lake of the Woods with family and friends.
Although afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis for most of her life, it never hampered her spirit for living and enjoying life with all around her.
She and Bill enjoyed their trips and many adventures in southern California visiting Kevin and family. In their retirement years, they spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., where Vi was active in the activities at their mobile park.
After Bill’s passing, Vi found comfort in her church and with her coffee friends.
Visitation was held Thursday, July 6, 2017 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre in Kenora.
A funeral service then was held Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, with Pastor Daren Gallivan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to the arthritis charity would be appreciated by the family.
