VICTOR CECIL CROSS

Victor Cecil Cross, 83, of Emo Road, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances.
Victor was born March 18, 1923 in Mulvihill, Man. to the late Herbert and Winifred (Izzard) Cross, the eldest of nine children. The family later moved to Rainy River District.
In 1942, Victor enlisted in the Canadian Forces in the 6th Field Artillery. He proudly served his country in northern Europe for three years.
On Sept. 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to May Kathleen (Mickey) Cross (nee Carmody) of Fort Frances. They built a life together forged on love and faith, raising five children on the family homestead just south of Emo, Ont.
Victor held various positions at the Emo Co-Op, the local papermill, as well as built and moved houses throughout Rainy River District. Victor enjoyed many things in life, such as woodworking, metal working, and the outdoors, and being with his grandchildren.
Victor was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was a loyal husband, father, and friend.
Victor was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Winifred Cross; five brothers, Ed, Bill, Art, Don, and Jack Cross; and three sisters-in-law, Ila, Joan, and Corinne Cross.
He leaves behind to mourn his wife, May (Mickey) Cross of Fort Frances, Ont.; five children, Kathleen (Yves) DeGagné and Patsy Cross, all of Fort Frances, Ont., Vicki (David) Ogilvie and Doug (Coleen) Cross, all of Emo, Ont., and Lori (Bill) Woodgate of Devlin, Ont.; 12 grandchildren, Réal (Rosanne) DeGagné, Celeste (Mike) Fletcher, Victor and Tim DeGagné, Heather, Dennis, and Allison Ogilvie, Jeff and Ashley Cross, and Jonathon, Erin, and Jessica Woodgate; and seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Aidan, Christen, and Gabrielle DeGagné, and Zachary, Evan, and Megan Fletcher.
Also surviving are one brother, Bert (Delores) Cross of Fort Frances, Ont., two sisters, Doris Anderson of Fort Frances, Ont. and Florence (Ed) Lampi of Devlin, Ont.; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Cross of Rainy River, Ont. and Lorena Jaman of Atikokan, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Monday, June 5, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Rev. Marietta Marshall officiating.
Interment took place in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
The Royal Canadian Legion Br. #99 (Emo) Colour Party provided their military tribute at the service.
The honourary pallbearers were Victor’s grandchildren, Réal (Rosanne) DeGagné, Celeste (Mike) Fletcher, Victor and Tim DeGagné, Heather, Dennis, and Allison Ogilvie, Jeff and Ashley Cross, and Jonathon, Erin, and Jessica Woodgate.
