VERNON MOKE TUESDAY (WAAZAY-GIIZHIG)

Vernon Moke Tuesday, 44, of Big Grassy First Nation, Ont. passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 in Kenora, Ont.
Vernon was born Nov. 11, 1965 in Baudette, Mn. to the late Carl Tuesday Sr. and Marie Morrison.
After graduating from Rainy River High School in Rainy River, Ont., he had moved to Winnipeg, Man. and was employed there for a number of years. Upon his return, he was elected as a band councillor for Big Grassy and also worked for the community in economic development.
Currently, Moke was employed with Grand Council Treaty #3 as a forestry co-ordinator.
He liked fishing, the outdoors, and eating traditional foods.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Vernon Jack, Ashley Jack, and Patrick Jack, all of Kenora, Ont., Daniel Copenace and Darren Copenace, both of Winnipeg, Man., and Sean Smith of Northwest Bay, Ont.
He also is survived by Ashley Ross of Winnipeg, Man., and Jennilee Major, Terilee Major, Cindy Major, and Scott Major of Big Grassy First Nation, who he considered as his own children; and by several grandchildren who he loved dearly.
Also surviving are his siblings, Virginia Tuesday, Carl Tuesday Jr. (Lana), Kevin Tuesday (Sandy), and Darren Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Marie; daughter, Courtney Arica Jack; and brother, Daryl Tuesday.
A traditional service was held Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Big Grassy Community Hall. Elder Charlie Nelson officiated, followed by interment in the Big Grassy First Nation Cemetery.
A funeral wake was held Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 from 3 p.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Community Hall.
The pallbearers were Dailen Tuesday, Robert John Tuesday, Robert (Skunk) Indian, Tim Archie, Jeff Morrison, Ron Allen, Bob Copenace, and Billy Copenace.
